Luscious, thick chocolate brownies topped with a drizzle of milk chocolate and white chocolate stars.
Now, Mary Berry may have slightly let me down with her Death by Chocolate Cake recipe, which I made and was not a huge fan of. But… these brownies were AMAZING and honestly the best brownies I have ever had. That may sound dramatic, but it’s truly not; they really were the best and to have made them myself too gave me so much more satisfaction.
The recipe is really simple, as is most recipes for brownies as it’s just mixing everything in one bowl, popping it in a baking tin and putting it in the oven; I don’t think a recipe can get much more simpler than that. One thing I highly recommend when making brownies is to watch how much mixture you put into the pan because you don’t want the mixture to be too high. It is much better to have a bigger pan where the mixture can be thinner than to have a small pan and filling it up to the top with the mixture. I learnt this with the second time I baked them.
The first time, everything was perfect about them. The second time they were just as perfect, but because I used a smaller tin, they took much longer to bake (they actually took an 1 hour 30 minutes, rather than the normal 40 minutes). But really it wasn’t too big of a deal as they still came out great. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed from doing this though is what is does to the brownies. When they are in a smaller pan with thicker mixture, the brownies come out much denser, whereas the bigger pans where they’re thinner makes them cakier.
I decided to jazz these brownies up, drizzling over some melted milk chocolate and white chocolate stars. I think it makes them look so cute and much more photogenic, which is a shame I didn’t get a better or even another photo of them than the only one I have, but we were all desperate to have some so it wasn’t on the plate for very long!
As far as brownies go, these are by far the best; they look and taste superb and are so simple to make. There is literally no downside to these brownies!
